The Master Bathroom

“The bath is one of the places I prefer, certainly not a place I leave readily, a place where one can close the door and remove oneself, put oneself in parentheses, as it were, from the rest of humanity. It is a place for reading and thinking, where one’s mind wanders easily, where time seems temporarily suspended.”

What We Did

Had the bathroom completely demoed and re-designed. I did the following….

  • Had the shower moved and converted it to a rain shower head with body bar with an infinity drain

  • Had a free-standing tub and tub filler installed

  • Had white hexagon flooring installed along with bright white grout

  • Had the bathroom texture smoothed out and painted Extra White [SW 7006]

  • Replaced the mirrors with hexagon mirrors to bring out the floor

  • Had new white lacquer cabinets installed

  • Replaced both sinks with Infinity sinks

  • Replaced the countertops with gray quartz shelves

  • Add 2 shelves above my sink [using the same gray quartz]

  • Installed grey tiles all over the wall with the water features

  • Replaced the bedroom to bathroom door

The only way to get the bathroom updated was to completely wipe it out and start over. We had the entire bathroom demoed and I redesigned it from scratch.

We originally had two double doors that opened into the bathroom, which I had removed. We had the door frame taken in and installed a single white 3 pane frosted glass door that opened into the bedroom as opposed to the bathroom. This made more sense as opening into the bathroom was not convenient.

We moved the shower to the right and installed a free standing tub along with a tub filler to the right of the shower. I wanted an infinity drain for the shower so it made sense to move the shower and have it just to the left of the tub. We also installed a rain shower and body bar for the new shower.

Initially my sink was on the right side with Caren’s on the left, next to the shower. I bought 2 new sinks [with a sloping infinity drain] and moved Caren’s to the right side and mine to the left of the shower. We purchased two white lacquer cabinets along with gray quartz countertops to sit on top of the cabinets and place the sinks on top. We had two shelves installed next to my sink to make a little more room. I found two fantastic hexagon mirrors to bring out the hexagon tiles on the floor.

For the backsplash I wanted to keep with the gray theme so I selected high gloss gray tiles for the backsplash. I figured the chrome would look better with the gray than any other color.

For the flooring we were going to initially use the same flooring throughout but due to the infinity drain in the shower we had to come up with something else. I really like the look of the hexagon tiles so I went with white hexagon tiles with bright white grout.
