The Remodel
Back in the early 1990’s, homes were still being built with closed off floor plans, so we were excited to find one that was more of an open floor plan. When we purchased the home, there were seven different types of flooring and five different types of blinds in the home; everything needed to be updated. We bought this house with the understanding of modernizing the entire home. I hope you all enjoy experiencing our journey as much as we loved creating it.

Upon moving in we replaced all light fixtures in the interior and exterior of the home. We also needed to fix all of the electrical issues [there were switches that needed to be disconnected or changed from a dual pole to a single pole] as well as replace all light switches with motion sensors and rocker switches [where we were unable to install motion sensor switches]. We purchased light switch covers from Invisiplate [paintable light switch covers] so they would be concealed and not as visible. We replaced all the interior light fixtures with recessed can lighting to brighten each room. We replaced all ceiling fans and had the entire inside of the house painted [using only the Sherwin-Williams Emerald paint line]. We painted the following rooms using the following colors :
• Cruising [SW 6782], used for office, back door
• Anew Gray [SW 7030], used for all main living areas
• Extra White [SW 7006], used for the kitchen and master bathroom
• Tricorn Black [SW 6258], used for kitchen cabinets and the accent wall
• Billowy Breeze [SW 9055], used for the master bedroom, second bathroom
• Torch Light [SW 6374[, used for one bedroom
• Embellished Blue [SW 6749] used for one bedroom
There were 2 sets of double doors [that separated the game room from the kitchen and foyer from the main hallway] that we removed to open the floor plan up a bit. We replaced the back door, had it painted [Cruising, SW 6782] and replaced all door hardware. The last step was to replace all plumbing fixtures in all bathrooms and in the kitchen. We also replaced the cook top on the island due to white knobs, I did not want any knobs or dials on the cook top.

Fast forward to almost a year later – I wanted to have more work done before we started the remodel. I had all chair railing and crown molding removed. The double doors to the office were removed as well as filling in a large opening in the main hallway [that had a light at the top] so the ceiling would be consistent across the house.

We had all of the flooring and baseboards replaced. We replaced all of the blinds with rolling shades. We had all of the backsplash removed in the kitchen, butler pantry and around both fireplaces. We had the entire bathroom demoed and it was completely re-designed.

“What is quality? Quality design must have a sense of authenticity. My work is not cutting edge, it is not supposed to be, but sometimes, the middle of the road is the most dangerous place to walk.”
